Pregnancy & Antenatal Care in Tenkasi

Caring, unhurried pregnancy checkups close to home — guided by lady gynaecologist Dr. K. Sushmitha. From your first positive test to safe delivery planning, we walk with you at every step.

Why regular antenatal care matters

Antenatal care simply means the regular health checkups you have during pregnancy. These visits are one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your baby. Even when you feel completely well, regular checkups help us make sure both of you stay healthy as the pregnancy grows.

During each visit we monitor your weight, blood pressure, your baby's growth and heartbeat, and review your blood and urine tests. This steady monitoring lets us catch common problems early — such as anaemia, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes or slow baby growth — when they are easiest to manage. Spotting concerns early often means simpler treatment and a calmer pregnancy.

Regular care also gives you a trusted place to ask questions, understand what is normal, and plan ahead for a safe delivery. Many worries during pregnancy come from uncertainty, and a few minutes with your doctor can replace that worry with clear, reassuring guidance.

Our antenatal services

Pregnancy confirmation & first visit

We confirm your pregnancy, check your dates, review your general health and medical history, and begin any vitamins such as folic acid. Your first visit sets the foundation and a personalised checkup plan for the months ahead.

Scheduled checkups by trimester

Through the first, second and third trimesters we track your baby's growth and heartbeat, your blood pressure and weight, and the routine tests and scans recommended at each stage — so nothing important is missed.

High-risk pregnancy — closer monitoring

If you have diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid issues, a previous complication, or you are aged 35 or above, we provide closer monitoring with more frequent visits and tests to keep you and your baby safe.

Nutrition & lifestyle guidance

Practical, everyday advice on diet, iron and calcium, gentle activity, rest and warning signs to watch for — explained simply, in Tamil or English, so the whole family can support you.

Delivery planning & referral coordination

As your due date approaches, we discuss your delivery options and prepare a clear plan. Where a hospital with full delivery facilities or specialist care is the safest choice, we coordinate a timely referral and share your records so your care continues smoothly.

Your visit schedule at a glance

Every pregnancy is different, so your doctor will personalise your schedule. As a general guide, most mothers can expect:

  • Up to ~28 weeks: roughly one checkup each month.
  • ~28 to 36 weeks: a checkup about every two weeks.
  • 36 weeks to delivery: weekly checkups as your due date nears.

If your pregnancy needs closer monitoring, Dr. Sushmitha may ask you to come in more often than this — that is normal and is done to keep you and your baby safe.

Warning signs — call us promptly

Most pregnancies go smoothly, but please contact us right away — or go to the nearest hospital if a symptom is severe — if you notice any of the following:

  • Vaginal bleeding or spotting
  • A severe or persistent headache, or changes in your vision such as blurring or spots
  • Your baby moving much less than usual, or not at all
  • A gush or steady leak of fluid from the vagina
  • Severe abdominal pain, high fever or persistent vomiting

When in doubt, it is always better to call. For emergencies — labour, severe symptoms or injury — we attend calls at any time, day or night. You can reach us on +91 90426 37799 or +91 95669 85878.

FAQ

Common questions about antenatal care

When should I first visit a doctor after a positive pregnancy test?

It is best to book your first antenatal visit as soon as you have a positive test, usually within the first 6 to 8 weeks. An early visit lets us confirm the pregnancy, check your dates, start folic acid if needed and plan your checkup schedule.

How often will I need antenatal checkups?

As a general guide, checkups are roughly monthly in the early months, every two weeks from around the 28th to 36th week, and weekly in the final weeks before delivery. Dr. Sushmitha will personalise this schedule based on your health and how the pregnancy is progressing.

Do you handle high-risk pregnancies?

Yes. Mothers with diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid problems, previous complications or who are 35 or older are given closer monitoring with more frequent visits and tests. If specialised hospital care is needed, we coordinate a timely referral.

Is a female doctor available for antenatal care?

Yes. Antenatal care at Aram Clinic is provided by Dr. K. Sushmitha, a lady gynaecologist (M.B.B.S, D.G.O, DNB (OG), F.MAS), so you can discuss your pregnancy and any concerns comfortably in Tamil or English.

What should I bring to my first antenatal visit?

Please bring any previous medical records, the date of your last menstrual period, a list of medicines you take, and any earlier scan or test reports. If you have insurance, carry your card so our staff can guide you.
